Nanatsu no Taizai 261 Review: Deathpierce is a Dick

Nanatsu no Taizai, Chapter 261: What I Want To Tell You

Well, after the huge emotional swirl that was the previous chapter, this one was a fair bit more predictable. Which is totally fine -- we get to see Estarossa crush Monspiet's final heart, and in his final act Monspiet just blasts Derriere away, far, far away from the battlefield where he and Estarossa is fighting. He ends up unable to tell Derriere the words he's been keeping secret for so long, before he explodes in huge hellfire (Estarossa is fine, of course). Derriere gets sent flying away to where the bulk of our characters are, and thankfully Elizabeth is there to recognize her and stop all parties involved from fighting. So I guess Derriere's joining 'our' guys for the moment? Neat.

Deathpierce and everyone in the Azure Sky Pleiades (otherwise known as 'Those Jackass Tertiary Characters' from now on) turn out uninjured and is mocking Hauser, Guilla and the rest of the 'Nice Secondary Characters' tier for being pussies that care about civilians and shit. All they need is Ludoshel's (or Ruedeciel, whatever) blessing and they can fight through anything! And, interestingly enough, it's Ludoshel's fellow angels Tarmiel and Sariel that put the kibosh on all this by noting that, no, Ludoshel doesn't give two shits about them, and none of her powers involve healing -- it's all Elizabeth, who, in addition to healing the entire battlefield at once, also has been talking to the demons' heart and managed to get some of them to retreat.

Elizabeth... totally not over-powered at all! Still, it's a neat little mini-conflict that gets resolved pretty quickly, and while Elizabeth's ever-growing strength is a bit worrying for the fact that there really isn't any tension for the good guys, it is very interesting that Sariel and Tarmiel doesn't seem to be the most keen on Ludoshel at the moment. From telling her to shut up in a previous chapter when Ludoshel was criticizing Elizabeth, and now to downplaying Ludoshel's power and actually hyping Elizabeth up... it's a bit interesting, and I'm curious if they're going to turn against Ludoshel sometime in the future.

Overall, a decent, if not particularly spectacular, chapter.
