SDCC 2018 -- BROLY

San Diego Comic-Con happened recently, and without any huge Marvel or DC * superhero movie to promote, I don't find much excitement about SDCC. The announcement of Glass is neat, and the fact that Clone Wars is back for one last season is unexpected but at the same time felt somewhat unnecessary considering the final season did wrap up a lot of the storylines, and the outstanding ones end up forming the backbone of the best episodes of the otherwise-underwhelming Rebels series.

*Addendum: I wrote this before the Aquaman and Shazam trailers dropped. Aquaman actually looks good, although I've always in the opinion that the cast of Aquaman will make the movie worthwhile if nothing else. Shazam is... okay. Doesn't look as good as I wished, and seems to be trying too hard, but not particularly bad. Hopefully.

There was Iron Fist's season two trailer, which looks better than the first season. That's not a compliment. It's just that there's not a lot of places for Iron Fist to go but up. There's Titans, but I'm extremely underwhelmed about the execution of that particular show, which just looks messy.

Broly hasn't been my favourite character in Dragon Ball -- he's a neat, if overhyped, movie villain, and it's actually nice to have one of the series's most divisive character be given a second chance to have a backstory that's better integrated into the greater canon -- it seems that we're getting tie-ins to Bardock and the Frieza Force with Broly and Paragus's new backstory.

And even if the whole new fancy backstory doesn't work out... holy shit, how cool is that trailer? Especially from an animation standpoint. I'm not one of those animation geeks who knows too much about art style and fluidity of movement and all that jazz, but I do know that I like this animation style!

Overall, yeah, looks like a pretty dang neat movie. Hopefully Super's second season doesn't try to re-make this movie for another 20 episodes or whatever, and just splice up the actual movie in the DVD sets or something.
