My Hero Academia 94 Review: Aftermath

Boku no Hero Academia, Chapter 94: Directives and Designations

We pick up and conclude the climatic fight between All Might and All For One. And apparently the big super-awesome climatic punch last chapter was, well, ultimately a distraction to get All For One to lower his guard, because the left hand punch isn't even meant to damage All For One... but rather as a distraction while All Might powers up his right arm for a really awesome final punch onto All For One's faceless meatball face, and as All Might's imaginative fires of his quirk fades away, All Might delivers a truly awesome UNITED STATES OF SMASH. Holy shit!

That's an awesome victory, and it's even a sacrificial thing as All Might loses his power and any hope of continuing to be the pillar of society. Everyone looks on as All Might raises a ragged arm, and even Gran Tourino notes that while wounded, All Might is serving his one final duty as society's pillar of justice, making this somewhat of a pyrrhic victory. Awesome and tragic at the same time.

While wounded, All Might points at the camera recording him and says "YOU'RE NEXT!" which society takes as a warning to all other villains, but Midoriya, naturally, understands the real meaning -- it's a passing of torch to the next generation. And the scene that it plays out, as the entire world cheer for All Might's awesome victory, Midoriya understands the true meaning that All Might's time has come to an end.

Meanwhile, All For One isn't even dead, but he's brought to a special prison (from which I'm 100% sure he'll break out of, because this is a prison in a superhero setting) for ultra-super-villains for whom death penalty is not enough. Though honestly considering what All For One did, death penalty would definitely be preferable from the miniscule chance that he might get free. The warden tries to be scary and intimidating and shit, but All For One reveals that he can't see anything or sense anything thanks to losing his infrared quirk -- how he had sensed his surroundings for the past few years after his defeat. Meaning that he's technically completely devoid of sensations. We get a short cameo by Stain.

All For One, meanwhile, thinks about how he had used the unsightly struggle as a chance to make his pupil to be able to stand on his own, noting that All Might 'lost your time to die', whatever that means. All For One being imprisoned means that this fans the flames of hatred within Shigaraki Tomura, a far, far more effective usage of 'use hatred to make you stronger' trope, and this is All For One's own message to Shigaraki, in the way that All Might gave his own torch to Midoriya, All For One has likewise given his to Shigaraki.

It's a great, climatic end, and a very awesome buildup. What's going to come next, who can guess? Maybe we'll get an arc about dealing with All Might's loss of powers. Maybe we'll get a more light-hearted superhero-Hogwarts style arc. But, man, what a way to end that arc!
