Boku no Hero Academia 149 Review: Bye Mimic

My Hero Academia, Chapter 149: Chill Out, Irinaka

A pretty cool chapter, that gives a bit more flashback scenes showing Toga and Twice as they first joined the yakuza, and Twice's insane back-and-forth between manic and cooperative are pretty hilarious. Mimic, meanwhile, even back then is a very, very angry little shit who keeps shouting things like "DON'T FUCK WITH THE YAKUZA, ASSHOLES!". We get the specifics of Twice and Toga's quirk abilities (though they may be lying, they sound relatively consistent to what we know of them). And it kind of explains just why Mimic is so high-strung in the present day -- even back then, he's already butting heads with Toga and Twice over their lack of respect.

In the present day, Toga, meanwhile, gives a pretty awesome speech about how little guys trying to hide their weakness overcompensate by always looking down on people from above, egging Mimic on and causing him to freak the fuck out, giving away his position to Midoriya who smashes him in the gut, and Aizawa erases his quirk. It's a pretty cool little takedown, although I'm not sure it required an entire chapter to tell. Nighteye does note that the heroes have been used, as Twice and Toga beat it out of there.

Meanwhile... Mirio faces off against Overhaul! Is Mirio going to die? I don't really think so, but I guess if there's going to be a semi-major character that dies in this arc it's probably going to be Mirio, right?
