Nanatsu no Taizai 128 Review: Hawkmama is awesome

Nanatsu no Taizai, Chapter 128: Arrogant Existence

The color page shows the colour schemes of the Ten Comandments and apparently Galan is green! Yeah it's always weird when someone you're used to as being coloured a shade of grey suddenly shows up and he's green or pink or orange or something loud.

Meliodas apparently detects the Ten Commandments fighting Diane and Matrona, and he can identify Galan and Monspiet specifically... and apparently according to King and Meliodas, Matrona's presence is comparable to the Ten Commandments. Which, while I'm not particularly into the Ten Commandments kind of taking a beating after being introduced as the ultimate badasses, kind of makes sense why Matrona was able to take Galan and Monspiet down, albeit temporarily.

Matrona knocks Diane out, while Galan breaks free from the Chibaku Tensei and does a little I-love-to-fight rant, but Matrona and Diane are instantly gone. Galan rules out teleportation and transformation, then does this crazy rampage he calles a 'Wretched Scatter Strike' and basically blows the entire area up by thrusting his spear a lot of times. While Galan rampages, Monspiet recovers from where he's fallen, and pulls off a nightmare face, which shocks Team Meliodas however many miles away they are from the Ten Commandments.

Meliodas notes that Monspiet was the last one he wanted to be noticed by. Monspiet notes how one of the presences is similar to Meliodas, and summons this 'Purgatory Flame Bird' and launches it. It just shoots straight like an arrow, burning anything in its path. Forests, mountains, towns, random trolls... it's not that over-crazy like something out of Toriko, but it's still quite impressive. Hawkmama trots away all calm-like in another direction while everyone panics which is hilarious, but the Purgatory Flame Bird just switches direction because it's a homing magic missile or some shit.

Meliodas notes that Monspiet is using that exact spell because it will force Meliodas to use Full Counter and that will confirm his presence. But Hawkmama just... turns directions again and eats the Purgatory Flame Bird. And everyone's reactions is the same as mine's which is 'holy shit wtf bbq'. Even Monspiet is surprised, but the fact that Purgatory Flame Bird vanished instead of being countered leads him to not give that much of an interest, and he notes that the magic he stole from eating humans is spent for that one spell.

Galan, meanwihle, has destroyed the entire area around them and the tip of his spear is kind of bloodied, so Galan assumed he killed the two giants. Matrona, however, apparently have simply burrowed away though she is bleeding from her left shoulder. She seems fine, though, just popping out of the ground with Diane and the warhammer Gideon in tow.

Merlin, meanwhile, notes how the other presence most likely rescued Diane (a completely baseless hypothesis, but since it's the truth, well all right then) and notes how she is going to give Meliodas his strength back, which Merlin took ten years ago. That was what everyone figured, really, when Meliodas and Merlin talked about debts and stuff. Merlin hid Meliodas' powers in Istar (no, not Isgar from Fairy Tail), which is basically Britannia's version of Stonehenge. Istar is also the Land of the Druids, and Elizabeth may or may not be involved since the last panel shows her face. Maybe they'll meet up with Hendricksen there? Or Escanor?

Overall pretty badass. I'm still kind of iffy that Galan and Monspiet get kind of put on the back foot by Matrona and Hawkmama, but on the other hand Monspiet wasn't really trying and Galan himself wasn't hurt at all either. So after thinking it over, the Ten Commandments' badassery remain unsullied. Still interested to see where all this goes.
