Nanatsu no Taizai, Chapter 190: Demon's Feast
Yeah, Monspiet and Derriere apparently bite the dust. We don't spend much time on that part, because we see the big conflict between Dreyfus/Fraudrin in the castle, but Fraudrin spends most of his panel time just being Mr. Exposition. He really likes to gloat, doesn't he? We get a bit of scenes for a good chunk of the knights of the kingdom, before Grey Road (Grey Lord? I honestly don't know) shows up, not as a coccoon with multiple faces, but expanded into a black web with his mask-faces showing up all over. Grey Road is like Aaroniero from Bleach, a lesser demon that grew so strong that he has as much power as the higher-ranked demons, and we see that his power is to act as the lesser demon's queen, so to speak, and it's kind of like the Alien Queens from the Alien franchise.
We see Grey Road capture basically all the civilians in the castle and hold them in bubbles. As Fraudrin monologues, some harsh actions by some members of the Holy Knights caused the bubbles (or 'fruits/eggs') to drop and unleash the humans within them, mutated into the red and white demon troops. So yeah, all the demons that our heroes have been slaughtering were once people. Dogged, one of the Pleaides, rushes in to murder the two demons spawned by Grey Road, but immediately gets stricken by Grey Road's "thou shalt not kill" and have his years taken away from him. Bye, Dogged. Oh, and Fox Hunt doesn't work on these guys, unlike the demon hybrids that Hendricksen tried to make before.
It's the ultimate no-win situation. Grey Road will mutate the humans into demon troops either way, who can kill and die because Grey Road doesn't give shit for his fodder children. And the people kidnapped and turned into eggs by Grey Road? Zeal (Guilla's brother) and Jericho are among them. Gustav, Jericho's brother, tries to slow down the transformation by freezing some of the eggs...
And then Merlin comes in, and creates gigantic ice spikes to freeze all the eggs, fully reformed in a new body (so is Galan truly dead?) and ready to kick some ass. Great chapter, great development, a lot of great moments for minor characters and a great and creative power.
