Nanatsu no Taizai 221 Review: Curses!

Nanatsu no Taizai, Chapter 221: Just Be Sincere

Another setup chapter, really, and I briefly considered just lumping this into 'manga reviews of the week', before deciding to talk a bit about the chapter itself. It's mainly just a long conversation between Elizabeth and Meliodas about the whole reincarnation thing, and despite Elizabeth's long recap of every single Elizabeth clone across the timeline, Meliodas acts coy and doesn't really give a shit, causing Elizabeth to walk away disappointed. King and Ban show up and tease Meliodas about it, leading to Ban being whacked so hard he gets a hole in his body (must be nice to have an indestructible buddy you can vent frustration upon).

Meanwhile, we see some other minor plot developments. Princess Margaret goes off to save Gilthunder, who last we saw found himself stuck in an alternate-dimensional prison with Vivian, who's really getting off on the contingency pain-causing curse Merlin stuck her with, I think? Been some time since I read the 'author is sick, have mini-stories'. We also see that Merlin's condition is deteriorating rapidly, and that Zeldoris struck her with a curse instead of just a mere exploding blast.

Elizabeth's attempt to cure her ends up shunting her into this dimension of all blackness where she meets Zeldoris, who, of course, knows who she is... but addresses her as the 'Cursed Goddess' Elizabeth that 'still causes Meliodas to suffer'. Which is interesting, because everyone has been assuming that it's Meliodas that's cursed, what with the ouroboros tattoo of the dragon and everyone around him seemingly being reincarnated, but maybe it's just Elizabeth, and the Hawk/parrot thing is a coincidence? We'll see.
