Fairy Tail 427 Review: Good Thing They Didn't Get Much Screentime

Fairy Tail, Chapter 427: The Heated Underground Battle

Well, the 'heated underground battle' is anything but. It's just panel after panel of Natsu one-shotting half of the Avatar guild. Creepy puppet kid, eyebrows kung fu dude and the robot are basically one shotted after showing one or two skills that honestly don't look impressive at all, and they don't give Natsu much trouble. At least we didn't waste too much time building them up like we did Tartaros if all that's going to happen is Natsu one-shotting them. Is this all Fairy Tail's going to be? We get introduced to a new wacky group of villains, then Natsu just one shots them no problem?  I am all for the main character looking badass, but if all he does is one-shot anything that comes his way and keep having a knack for 'knowing' where to go next it really doesn't make much of a story, does it?

We see Lucy use Star-Dress: Virgo Form... which allows Lucy to use Virgo's magic. Which is absolutely redundant when Virgo is out and about at the same time, isn't it?

All the while the story is bordered by oddly widely-spaced-out jokes that are rehashed from the very first chapters of Fairy Tail? Really, the panels for the jokes in the first half of the chapter really didn't feel that economic. Jokes that could've been told in one or two panels take up entire pages. Like the 'Virgo loves bondage' scene that probably could've taken a panel or two? Takes up an entire page and a couple extra panels. But whatever.

Anyway, most of the chapter is a rehash of old jokes, a display of the Virgo Form, and then Natsu taking out the three Avatar dudes before Gray shows up all dramatic-like. Hopefully Gray will give a better show than just getting one-shotted. (Honestly can't think of anything else to say, really).
