My Hero Academia 173 Review: Miss Con

Boku no Hero Academia, Chapter 173: The Most Enjoyable Time is Preparing for the Cultural Festival, Pt 2

THE PEACH IS RIPE
Another mostly fluffy chapter, where it's revealed that we're not actually time-skipping to the culture festival, but rather Eri's just shown up to U.A. so she doesn't get a huge culture shock. Oh, and Togata's "grand entrance" is having his butt pop out of a bunch of bushes. Midoriya and Togata basically show Eri around and Mineta makes a rather... unfortunate joke about waiting until Eri's of legal age which... yeah, that's still quite creepy. Damn it, Mineta.

There's a joke bit where I think some people think that Eri's Togata's child or something? There's a hilarious bit where the 1B class kids show up and one-note-character Monoma makes this huge speech about 1B's huge drama show, "ROMEO JULIET AND THE PRIZONER OF AZKABAN - THE RETURN OF THE KING". Yeah, Class 1B. mix together Shakespeare, Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings. And throw in some weird random Japanese anime costumes in. That...  that actually sounds awesome and I kinda want to see it.

We also get the talk about this Miss Con competition, where it's basically, well, an idol competition. Kendo of 1B is competing, as well as Togata's buddy Hado. Who we see in a sexy (but actually still tasteful, all things considered) dress. Midoriya, hilariously, gets bamboozled into speechlessness by her "proportions". Well, that's going to be a running joke. It's probably going to be super popular among the fans, too.

We also get to meet Hatsume, who's building a robot and everything, but I don't really think there's anything super-significant other than seeing Hatsume for the first time in a relatively long time. We also get to see the police warning Headmaster Nezu to cancel the culture festival as it's going to be the target of villains thanks to U.A.'s prominence, but Nezu is adamant of having peace and whatnot. So that's going to be the stakes of this little lighter-hearted arc, then? It's cool.

Oh, and Midoriya is 'fired' from the dance squad despite promising Eri that he's going to perform. It's a development that's neat, but overall I do like this. It's just a bunch of nice scenes and we get to meet some characters we haven't met in quite a while. Good stuff.

  1. Speaking of heroes, and since I dunno for you ever looked again. The Tick is back! They dropped the second half, thought you’d like to know.

    1. Oh, neat! I'll look it up. I'm binge-watching a lot of superhero shows so it might take some time to get to it, but I'm definitely going to watch the Tick eventually and review it, though!
