My Hero Academia 119 Review: Cool Fight Scenes

Boku no Hero Academia, Chapter 119: Deku v.s. Kacchan 2

Another very solid chapter. The fight scenes are truly amazing, and I am absolutely impressed at how great and dynamic Bakugou's explosion powers shooting him around and everything looks. Midoriya's strength and full cowl and whatnot is a bit less impressive and flashy as Bakugou using explosions to propel himself around, but the resulting fighting between the two is definitely a highlight in this manga's history.

Midoriya himself notes in a short monologue how it really should've been a short squabble to have Bakugou let out some steam, but Midoriya himself is running high on steam and he wants to let some of his own emotions out.

The two give a pretty impressive showing, with Midoriya noting how Bakugou's gotten stronger. Bakugou himself gives a short rant about how despite Bakugou tormenting and beating Midoriya up, he always kept coming back, even though he's a weakling. And the sheer confidence that Midoriya has that he can surpass Bakugou is something that Bakugou detested and couldn't stand. Midoriya, meanwhile, counters with the fact that while a normal person wouldn't want anything to do with a bully, Midoriya's lack of, well, talent and powers meant that Bakugou's amazing talent is a constant source of inspiration to Midoriya in spite of Bakugou's unpleasant personality.

And after a short buildup of how Midoriya's lost slight control of the strength All Might has given him, Midoriya charges and kicks Bakugou with 8% of his power, and, boy, as awesome as it is for Midoriya to declare that he has finally caught up to Bakugou's level... will Bakugou even be alive after that kick? Jeez.

Very, very well-written chapter that explores both sides of the view and knows when to just shut up and show us some well-choreographed fight scenes. Man, when I have the time I will watch Boku no Hero Academia's anime, if nothing else just to catch up to the awesome fights that the current few arcs has.
