Nanatsu no Taizai 116 Review: Kage Bunshin no Jutsu

Nanatsu no Taizai, Chapter 116: Sacred Treasure Lostvayne

So the chapter opens with Meliodas activating his sacred treasure, Lostvayne, and while it does enhance Meliodas's attacks, it also replicates him into five Meliodas-es. It's basically Naruto's Kage Bunshin no Jutsu, and we see him first slicing Albion's giant arm with one swing, and then all five of them use Full Counter on Albion's five long tendril-cannon things. It takes around half the chapter to display Lostvayne's powers, but it's nice to build up the actual properties and then revealing that it's, well, a cloning/duplicating thing before having Meliodas destroy Albion. I admit I expected something more, something weirder or whatever, but we really haven't seen much of Lostvayne beyond that one power. We don't really know the specifics or whatnot and like Lucy's Stardress ability from Fairy Tail and this is just a preview of sorts.

Whatever the case, Meliodas one-shots Albion, blowing off the thing's upper half and that's that for that golem. Everyone is surprised and shit. And that's pretty freaking cool!

But the second half of the chapter cuts back to Ban and King. Apparently Ban has been coming back every couple of years to slice his wrist open and feed the Fairy King's Forest with his blood, since Ban is basically the replacement for the Fountain of Youth. Jericho is still trying to stay with Ban, and King is about to leave with Oslo when he realizes the forest is growing and all that.

This weird, sort of creepy-looking fairy, Gerard, talks to Ban after he does his blood-spilling thing, and I'm pretty sure we haven't seen her before. Or is she a 'him'? She looks kind of feminine with that hair and dress, but she's called Gerard. Whatever. She's covering one eye with her turban like an emo goth girl, and while she's got a cute flower on her head and holding a fucking blackberry staff, I can't help but think that there's something rather off about her. Ban asks Gerard why she doesn't become king since she's served the Fairy King for generations, but Gerard tells Ban that the Fairy King title is chosen by the Sacred Tree and it isn't a diplomacy or whatever like the humans.

Gerard also tells Ban in no uncertain terms that he ain't anything more than nourishment for the forest, and King is still fit to be the Fairy King. Ban is all 'I'm doing this for Elaine' and doesn't really respond to Gerard's comments about him being nothing but nourishment. But this really big and lanky golem of similar looks to Albion shows up. So I guess Ban and King are going to fight this tall fellow in the next chapter! It's some nice setup going on, and I'm absolutely curious to see where we're going with the whole Ban King situation, and just what Lostvayne's real properties are.
