Boku no Hero Academia 146 Review: Overhaul's Powers

Boku no Hero Academia, Chapter 146: Temporary Transfers

Look this amazing super duper colour art woo
More or less a bit of a cooldown chapter, which is why it took so long for me to write about it. Won't be too verbose, to be honest. It's mostly just a bit of extrapolation of scenes we've seen before, which isn't bad -- they work well at fleshing out both Fat Gum and Kirishima, showing how they first met, what Gum thought of Kirishima the first time, and how Kirishima looked for a more professional hero so he's not just the 'rambunctious guy' anymore like his last workplace experience.

Rappa stands up, but acknowledges them as worthy opponents, leaves them with a medical kit and walks away. He's awesome, and we're probably going to see a bit more of him in the future. Tengai gets stomped in the face for his problems. Rappa is basically a Kenpachi-style character, who doesn't necessarily believe in the whole goals of the group and is only in it for the fights and the good fights and more fighting and fights. Gum notes how Kirishima's grown to a man that's even acknowledged by an enemy.

Rappa's motivations get brought up into question, and Rappa notes that Overhaul's the only person he's ever lost to (he considers his fight with Kirishima and Gum to be a draw). Overhaul one-shotted and murdered Rappa, and then put him back together, finally giving confirmation to the extent of Overhaul's powers, as well as how the robbers that Overhaul turned into tires randomly survived. Also, as Fat Gum realizes, the fact that Rappa -- himself not a slouch -- is easily taken out by Overhaul not once but five times, really shows that Overhaul himself isn't an easy prey to take down in combat. Rappa doesn't know much, but apparently Overhaul wants to 'spread' something recently.

Overhaul, Chronostasis and Eri walk out, noting that they have the finished product, the serum and they're about to put it into motion. Overhaul acknowledges how unpopular he is among the mafia, but he's the only one that's trying to put the sick boss's will into action. He leaves the base, letting two members of the League of Villains take his place -- Toga and Mister Twice. TWICE IS BACK, BABY! My favourite character!

Yeah, a pretty great chapter, I'm a big fan of these characters, and I'm just a big fan of Academia at this point.
