Nanatsu no Taizai 265 Review: Sudden Flashback

Nanatsu no Taizai, Chapter 265: Rampaging Love

(Feels like it's been a while since I reviewed a manga chapter)

This chapter of Taizai is... okay? I'm not sure how I feel about the sudden backstory for Estarossa. It sort of helps to put some of his decisions into perspective, although it does make the character seem somewhat shallow, I think. As a child, Estarossa is apparently always overshadowed by his supportive brother Meliodas, and really, really wants to be like Meliodas, so much that he wants to be Meliodas. And part of it is a huge, huge crush on Elizabeth, who was nice to him. I'm not sure if there's something going on because neither Elizabeth nor Estarossa seem to remember that they've met each other in the past. Elizabeth's always got holes in her memory, but I'm curious if there's something more to the flashback that deleted the two of them from each other's memories.

This episode is more 'Estarossa is OP', with Elizabeth ordering everyone to protect Derriere. We've got Guila (ha ha), Diane, King and the two Archangels trying to take down Estarossa, and none of them work. We get Guila and the two Archangels being fucked up, until Elizabeth finally decides to follow Estarossa's game for now. It's okay, I guess, and probably would work better as part of a larger arc read with the chapters that preceded it, but ultimately it feels a bit short, like not really that much happened.
