My Hero Academia 193 Review: Year Zero

My Hero Academia, Chapter 193: Traces

An... interesting look into the original fight between the original brothers, the original One for All, as well as All for One. It's a pretty neat chapter, and while I'm not 100% sure this is all necessary (a lot of the information is just repeats, just seen from Midoriya's eyes) it's delivered with enough flourish and there are some new information that's kind of interesting.

We get to see the ideological debate between One for All and All for One, although it's less of an ideological debate and more of a supervillain's twisted logic. All for One's logic is that he's respecting people's independence by moving powers from people who don't want them to people who want them, regardless of the inherent violence within some of these people. It's basically the same mentality of comic-book supervillains like Thanos's "I shall wipe out half of the world's population because resources must be shared that way" or Joker's "one bad day can turn everyone into a psychopath" mentalities. It's bullshit logic, but the character so intensely believes in this flawed, bullshit logic that the audience at least appreciates their intensity to maintain this logic.

Sure, All for One wants to make a 'fair' world, but his idea of fairness is empowering only those who are loyal to him heedless of how many blood are spilled. One for All nails the point of "you just want loyal soldiers and servants!" and that's not wrong, of course. And considering that Midoriya himself would be probably receptive to All for One's offer to give him superpowers, it's interesting to see. We get to see a glimpse of the chaos All for One unleashed, and how One for All was kept in a cage. There was a bit of a talk about comic books, and apparently All for One was the one responsible for imbuing One for All with superpowers in the first place?

We then have a brief bit of One for All's ghost or spirit or Avatar: The Last Airbender whatever talking to Midoriya, but that's about all the chapter has because Midoriya wakes up soon after.

Not sure if this will be the focus of the next arc, or just a fun little intermission between the Endeavour stuff and whatever comes next. Regardless, a fun little pit-stop.

As a brief side-note, I'm a bit sorry if the content creation is a bit stagnant for this month as well as the previous one. I have at least half of JJBA and Avengers EMH ready to upload, but I'm doing a lot of real-life work and travelling, so apologies for that.
