One Piece 927 Review: Celebrity Prostitutes

One Piece, Chapter 927: The Courtesan's Kamuro

No My Hero Academia review this week, because it's quite literally just a recap and breather chapter. It's probably fine as part of a larger whole, but I can't really say all that much about that in a review of its own.

One Piece 927 isn't that much more content-filled too either, honestly...it's just a check-in on a bunch of our characters that we haven't seen in a while -- Usopp, Franky and Robin -- who hang out at Sanji's food stall. I think the only real interesting information we get here is that Wano is comprised of multiple islands, something that I'm not sure is an information we already know. We get a pretty generic scene of members of the Kyoshirou family trying to kick Sanji out of business since he doesn't pay protection money, and then Sanji and Franky beat the thugs up and force them to eat the spilled soba. Genuinely nothing particularly interesting, especially since it just feels like a repeat of Luffy beating up the sumo dude from earlier in the arc.

The whole deal just seems to be a way to re-integrate Kyoshirou the pompadour dude into this whole thing as a minor antagonist. We also get introduced to Toko, an always-smiling kid whose entire scene is based on Japanese-based puns, which... eh. He is also a Kamuro -- and it's kind of an introduction to some Japanese terms. As most manga translations had noted, Kamuros are apparently attendants to Oirans (Courtesans), who are actual high-class prostitutes, in contrast to Robin being a Geisha, who doesn't actually provide sexual services and is just a performer.

Apparently the Courtesans are like the super-idols of the country, and one of them, Komurasaki, is like the super-duper beautiful woman of Wano which we don't actually see the face of in this chapter, so... eh? We also get to see Shogun Orochi from outside his windows, and apparently he looks like an Orochi. Maybe. It's a silhouette, so it might just be his throne or something. Overall, it's just a transition to go from the whole madness of Luffy/Kid and all that back to the Robin infiltrating the Shogun's court storyline. Not the most exciting chapter, to be honest.
