Nanatsu no Taizai 178 Review: Timeskip!

Nanatsu no Taizai, Chapter 178: Dark Britannia

Well, it's not what I expected from this week's Nanatsu no Taizai. In a good way, of course, not in the insanely deus ex machina bullshit that's going on over in Fairy Tail this week... but to spare me the bother of spending fifteen minutes typing up a two-page rant on it, let's just say that I think this week's Fairy Tail is utterly stupid and move on.

Anyway, Taizai. After last chapter's big bombshell with Meliodas killed and Ban apparently blown into blobs of blood, we get a timeskip! The Ten Commandments (well, nine) have basically ruled Britannia, sending their armies of creepy sun-faced demons to fuck citizens up, and because the demons want to eat strong souls, they've put bounties on Holy Knights and the desperate peasants and citizens are on manhunts to take them down. We see Ruin and Friesa, two members of the Weird Fang -- which was that group of four knights that guarded Ban's prison and was conspicuously absent during the big battle in the capital city against Hendricksen. Also, Friesa, big bug-helmeted knight, is apparently a lady!
Fraudrin-Dreyfus shows up, and despite being kind of assholes, Ruin and Friesa didn't deserve what happened to them. They didn't even get the memo that Fraudrin is a demon inhabiting Dreyfus, and was all like 'oh, the Great Holy Knight, we can start to mount a resistance now...' but Fraudrin eats his soul, and the civilians pin Friesa down and we get a pretty sad scene as she struggles while there's absolutely no hope for her. I mean, those two are ultimately meaningless in the grand scheme of things, but still it's a sad way to die, being betrayed by the people you swore to protect. And the civilians don't get that much of a choice either, because even selling out holy knights only gets them a couple extra months.

Meanwhile, there is a resistance, led by Arthur, his little hat-cat and that Japanese dude that looks like Nobunaga from Hunter-x-Hunter, who like all Japanese anime characters with katanas has insane iai skills.

Yeah, excited to see what we get in this new arc. Nothing much else to say, it's a cool and dark way to set things up, that's for sure.
