Boku no Hero Academia, Chapter 126: Opening Up the World
Well, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure basically won that voting poll by a landslide, didn't it? Well, expect monthly JoJolion chapter reviews, then! Also maybe I'll actually get to finishing my JJBA Parts 1-7 series reviews and top ten stands list that're all sitting as drafts in my blog. Anyway, My Hero Academia.
This chapter is mostly uneventful, to be honest, compared to the previous chapter. The internships thing is going to continue, although not all the students are going to do it and this gives us an excuse to focus more on Midoriya's conflicts instead of cutting to each and every student. There are some really funny scenes going on in this chapter -- Bakugou being a dick and being happy that some of them can't go for internships, the other teachers in the background of the teacher's room scene talking about karaoke and shit, Mineta's "who to fap to" comment...
Basically, All Might and his old sidekick Nighteye seem to have massive respect for each other, but didn't part off in good terms. All Might in particular really wants to skirt around even having to contact Nighteye at all, looking apologetic as all hell, while Nighteye apparently still idolizes All Might a fair ton to catch up with his exploits in TV. Togata, who is a lot nicer than I thought he would be -- he really seems to be a genuinely good guy and I'm just being suspicious before -- is working under Nighteye and thus All Might got Midoriya to basically use Togata to introduce him to Nighteye.
Speaking of Togata... his innocent-jackassery from previous chapters actually seem to be genuine innocence instead of him being a showoff or a jackass. His lines to Midoriya about how he's helping someone in need, like what a superhero should do, basically affirms that the two of them are more alike than they realize. All Might even straight-up notes that the only reason he didn't pick Togata is that he met Midoriya first.
Nighteye, of course, is the super-stern looking dude in a business suit, and despite being super-serious in both look and demeanour, he's also spending his time Youtubing All Might... and he demands humour for some reason from all his subordinates. Now Togata is funny enough -- even his face is funny -- but we get to see an interaction between Nighteye and his subordinate Bubble Girl, this chick with a sexy outfit. And she reports something to Nighteye without humour, and she gets strapped onto a Tickle Hell torture machine and tickled mercilessly. It's... disturbing, hilarious, sexy and weird all rolled into one package.
Togata tells Midoriya to open up with a joke because Nighteye only respects joke. We get a couple of panels having Midoriya put his hands in front of his face as if building up to a dramatic thing he's prepared... and it's an All Might impression. Something that... appears to absolutely trigger Nighteye. "Are you mocking ALL MIGHT?" Welp, it's going to be a funny next chapter, if nothing else because Midoriya's going to have to find his inner comedian to get through this.
