Fairy Tail 438 Review: Master Erza. Yay.

Fairy Tail, Chapter 438: The Seventh Guild Master

Of course, nothing of substance happens here. And again, every single chapter vindicates my point of view that the whole 'Fairy Tail disbands only to reform again' to be utterly and completely pointless. We get yet another 'Lucy takes a bath and comes out to find Natsu and Happy in her house' scene that lasts four pages because there's nothing better to do than to extend a trite comic routine for four times than what it's worth. Also, butts and nipple-less boobs. The amount of times we've seen Lucy's boobs have made me utterly indifferent to them.

Then they apparently go to rebuild their guild after it was destroyed by Tartaros -- why didn't they think of doing this after Tartaros fell and said 'fuck it' to Makarov disbanding the guild, I don't know. We get some bullshit about people gossiping about Gray and Juvia, Lisanna's apparently served as a waitress in the interim because fuck Lisanna I guess. Also she's got a boob-window clothes. Elfman's got this gigantic turtleneck bodysuit deal going on, and fights Natsu. Everyone joins in. Natsu is better than Elfman. Erza shuts everyone down with a death glare. It takes basically almost the rest of the chapter. What changes? Not a damn thing but Elfman's clothes, that's for sure.

Some talk about Levy and Panther Lily having helped go through the official channels to reinstate Fairy Tail as a guild, blah blah blah. Again, none of this guild-falling-apart bullshit needs to happen. Also some talk about who's going to be the seventh master. And it's going to be Erza. Well, that's a good choice. She's protected with the 'Because she's Erza' ultra-super-invincibility plot armour and absolutely nothing can touch her.

And then Mest Gryder, a.k.a. Doranbolt, a.k.a. creepy pedophile councilman guy, shows up talking that they need a seventh master to rescue the sixth master, Makarov. Now I don't particularly mind the whole Doranbolt is a mindwiped member of Fairy Tail thing. It's definitely pulled out of the writer's ass in the spur of the moment and definitely not planned out or whatever, but I'm still pissed off. This chapter should've taken place right after the final Tartaros chapter. Hell, the only chapters that needed to hapen was Natsu training (no need for the guild splitting up), the Zeref one and this one. What did all the other chapters accomplish? Jack all. But I've bitched about that enough.

So the next arc is going to be focusing on rescuing Makarov and probably some talk about Lumen Histoire. I would say that I'm hopeful that it's going to be better than the last arc, but I legitimately can't think of any ways that it could be worse. The premise is certainly interesting, but Fairy Tail hasn't really done much to restore my faith in thatit could be good like it once was.

Then again, that was what I said at the end of the Tartaros arc, so I might just be tempting fate here.
