Nanatsu no Taizai 127 Review: Hurting the Ten Commandments

Nanatsu no Taizai, Chapter 127: Reunion with Despair

With that two-part flashback out of the way, we return to the present day. Team Meliodas is on HawkMama's back and they're just running on through the grasslands towards Megadozer in hopes of intercepting Diane before she runs into the Ten Commandments. Merlin apparently can't do anythng because all her magic is concentrated in keeping her form in the crystal ball, so it isn't that story-breaker-y as it initially seems.

Meanwhile, Galan is just hanging out with the other Seven Sins in the ruins of Edinburgh, posing like a French girl. He keeps talking about how anticlimatic the fight with the Seven Sins are. Dreyfus-Fraudrin asks Galan whether that's true, and Galan responds with what is basically 'bitch I'm the truth!' Which is interesting. If Galan is 'thou shalt not lie', does that mean he cannot tell a lie himself? Galan is kind of bored and he heads out to stab people again because he can't sit still. Take-it-up-the-ass girl is sleeping on the lap of curly-mustache-dude, who we learn in this chapter is called Monspiet.

Meanwhile, apparently Diane has been flashbacking the same stuff we have seen in her origin flashback story and her mental state has deteriorated up until that time and she wants to go back to Megadozer to tell her village-mates that Matrona has died.

However, Galan shows up behind Diane, and Diane instinctively knows that Galan is a monstrous force and just runs for it. She is stopped, however, by Monspiet, who's all "the bigger the body, the better the soul is for recovering power". Galan is kind of confused about why the giant girl is still alive, and then notes that Monspiet is spoiling Derriere, who I'm going to assume is Ass-girl because of what Derriere means (ass, if you don't know), but Monspiet insists that it's just for the sake of his stomach.

Galan is all like "I know you, I recognize your hammer" with Diane, while Diane just panics and whacks Galan with her hammer -- we know that won't do jack shit. Galan notes how Diane is definitely not lying, so maybe he just failed to deliver the final blow, and he delivers the mother of all kicks to Diane's stomach. Monspiet is about to eat Diane's soul, when suddenly a gigantic rock-sword thing knocks Monspiet out of the way, and a storm of rocks hit Galan and the rocks do Pain's Chibaku Tensei thing and squish him in place.

And, of course, the one doing this is Matrona, who's exchanged her leopard print tribal undies for some leather clothing. I doubt that these attacks will do much against Galan (or Monspiet for that matter), but it does take them out of the picture from now and I'm going to assume that being a mentor and all, Matrona's a lot more powerful than Diane is even in the present day. I just hope they don't throw the villain-decay ball on the Ten Commandments and Galan that quickly because, well, I freaking like Galan, crazy psychopath that he is.

Also do like the little subversion on the classic 'Shonen character's parents die in a flashback' and actually have Matrona show up, making that flashback not entirely pointless because now we have the mystery of how the fuck Matrona survived. Though still I want to focus on all the awesome fights and the Galan and the Monspiet and the Ass Girl.
