My Hero Academia 162 Review: Meanwhile

Boku no Hero Academia, Chapter 162: One Who Is  Worthy

One of the most fun things about superhero crossover stories is that sometimes, concurrently when all these cool shit with the Justice League is happening, some other cool shit with, say, the Teen Titans is also going on. Boku no Hero Academia doesn't have the luxury of having multiple comic book titles to tell its story (well, there's Vigilantes but that  feels more like a prequel side-story than a concurrently running story). Sometimes this format makes the crossover incomprehensible and difficult to keep up with, but one of the coolest moments, if done well, is a moment like the beginning of this chapter,  where it's revealed that while the bulk of our heroes are fighting Overhaul and Twice and the rest of everything that's been going on...

Gran Tourino and a small army of policemen have taken down Black Mist, Shigaraki's butler majordomo and left-over from All For One. Black Mist has apparently unleashed a contingency plan, however, one that All For One left behind... a second apprentice,  this... giant Kirishima-looking fellow called Giganto-Machia.

There's a bit of a recap with Midoriya  and Aizawa finding about about Overhaul being brutalized by Shigaraki, and we get a pretty emotional moment as Midoriya walks into Mirio's room... and quirkless and mentorless, he's still as cheerful as all hell, because that's the type of hero he and Nighteye wants him to be. Midoriya has this moment when he apologizes for failing to properly protect Eri even with superpowers, and even makes the suggestion that he give One For All to him, which Mirio straight-up refuses. Mirio gives a brief handwave that maybe if Eri ever wakes up and gets proper control of her quirk, she could restore Mirio's quirk back... but, again, plot reasons and all, Mirio's still quirkless for a while. And I'm fine with that.

And the next storyline... Bakugou and Tadoroki getting their licenses! Good stuff.
