Nanatsu no Taizai 246-247 Review: Smackdown

The Seven Deadly Sins, Chapter 246: A Chance Meeting; Chapter 247: Collection

Finally, we get Meliodas, Estarossa and Zeldoris all in the same room! And, well, this chapter is just one big showcase of how motherfucking badass Meliodas is. We do get some weird flashbacks with Estarossa where he apparently remembers goddess!Elizabeth in a dream... that he had no idea about. He's essentially revived, and his own version of Chandler is Peronia, a tiny chibi she-devil that is far too interested in Estarossa's assets when she's talking about 'good health'. That was kinda funny.
Meliodas and Zeldoris' confrontation is definitely well done and paced well, and Estarossa just saunters into the room, talking about how he doesn't care about who gets the throne and who gets to be the new Demon King, but he still wants in... until he sees Elizabeth, and for no real reason decides to claim her. More mysteries! But Estarossa then simply wants to claim Elizabeth. And, well, Meliodas lays down the law -- he's going to be demon king, and he's not going to hand Elizabeth over to anyone.

We get this full-page panel of Zeldoris and Estarossa charging at Meliodas, then a full-on page of the two of them trash-talking Meliodas... then a two-page spread of Meliodas one-shotting them with a blast of black magic.

And then he one-shots Zeldoris's bodyguard, Chandler has like an orgasm or something in happiness, and Zeldoris is just all "this cannot be, I have the Demon King's power!" And Meliodas just forces them all to their knees and tells them that 'if we're going to discuss anything, we need to first figure out where we stand with each other'. Very cool display of power, very unexpected that Meliodas just one-shots everyone, and while I'm the teensiest bit afraid of how power levels have been handled throughout this arc, I do like that at least Meliodas is a nominally antagonistic force at this point, so... yeah. Definitely a great power-display-showoff chapter, for sure.

Huge EDIT, because I didn't realize we got a double-chapter week! So yay, I get to talk about chapter 247 now. The battle basically continues between Zeldoris and Meliodas, although Estarossa just shrugs it off and goes 'yep you're Meliodas all right'. Zeldoris is still very much super-angry and wants to become demon king regardless of what Meliodas thinks, and Meliodas doesn't deny that he wants the power to free himself and Elizabeth from the curse.

And then after a fight between the two, Meliodas manages to arm-lock Zeldoris, whisper something into his ears and... Zeldoris relents? What? Apparently Zeldoris decides to help Meliodas out, which is cool, I suppose. We get some backstory on how the Ten Commandments were founded -- part of the Demon King's power was split into ten or something along those lines, and Meliodas wants his brothers to collect all ten. And apparently Zeldoris already gathered those from Gowther, Gloxinia and Dolor. We also get the revelation that the taking of a Commandment requires either consent or for the owner to be rendered useless in a fight... so when did Zeldoris rip the commandment out of Gowther is my question. Is it just because he's disloyal?

Estarossa then just shrugs it off and says 'well, obviously we kill them all', and Meliodas shows off that he's already taken Gray Road from Merlin. And, well, I guess now we have a reason for Monspiet and Derriere surviving. Zeldoris and Estarossa are unhappy but they go off to help Meliodas... and apparently first on their target is Merascylla, who is captured by Merlin as well. Welp that's hella interesting!
