Nanatsu no Taizai 217 Mini-Review: Heart of Stone

Nanatsu no Taizai, Chapter 217: Where the Heart is

We did get a couple of unfunny-funny moments in this chapter, like King Barta's appearance, and stuff like that, which... really kind of fell flat for me. Ban and Meliodas mocking King's teeny-tiny wings is funny, though. And, well, Diane tells the group that her memory's back, and apparently Barta did everyone a solid and finished the side-quest ahead of time, having recovered Gowther's heart. This causes the poor kid to freak out and run away, causing the rest of the Sins (including the conveniently-shrunk Diane) to go off to help him out.

We got some introdumps courtesy of Meliodas, which I felt was kind of unnecessary. The details we learn are stuff we could've inferred or are kind of irrelevant, like why Gowther looks so androgynous, or the circumstances under Demon!Gowther's imprisonment. It's kind of cool, I guess, seeing everyone gathered and interacting, but there were a couple of panels that are dedicated to dudes like Escanor and Ban who, while it's cool to see them interact with the other sins, still felt like obvious filler and they really could've shuffled their dialogue as part of bigger group shots. We also have the King/Meliodas make-up, which was brushed over even by the manga because, shit, no one cares that King had PMS and threw a hissy fit a couple of times in the past.

The chapter ends with Doll!Gowther being super confused, attempting to purge her own memory, before being dropkicked by Diane. Not really super-exciting considering what I expected would happen after the events of the previous chapter, but eh, getting rid of these side-plots is definitely something I can get behind.
