Fairy Tail 412 Review: Co-starring Dragons

Fairy Tail, Chapter 412: Dancing to Ishgar's Tune

A slightly more eventful chapter than the extremely underwhelming set of fights we have recently. We get a couple of recap pages of Mard Geer's defeat, and then Gray and Natsu get into an argument over the E.N.D. book, where Gray wants to destroy it completely while Natsu wants to give it to Igneel... and really, at this point, there isn't any reason for Gray to be so adamantly against Natsu's wishes.

Face turns on, which is like the chapter ending two months ago or so. We get a bunch of reactions from both the Fairy Tail members and people all over the country. Makarov apparently is too late with Lumen Histoire, whatever the hell that does. And naturally, since this is Fairy Tail, Lisanna gets stripped naked thanks to losing her magic.

Mard Geer, still alive, goes on a bit of a monologue saying how this is just the beginning, and how E.N.D. will feed off the nothingness left in the wake of magic disappearing. We get an entire page of Natsu's face screaming for no good reason...

And then Acnologia gets brought down to the ground by Igneel. Which, while an undoubtedly cool series of pages, means that unless next chapter brings us 25 minutes into the past again, we just got cheated out of the Igneel-Acnologia fight and instead we get to see the Erza/Kyouka and Natsu/Gray/Mard Geer bullshit boring fight. DAMMIT!

We get a page of Ichiya and the rest of Blue Pegasus hovering on their flying boat near the Faces, unable to touch Face with their flying boat's cannons... and after a couple of panels, they are telepathically contacted by someone and they go evasive, and the Face blows up. And what I initially thought to be Jellal or something turns out to be Grandeeney, the sky dragon. She gets four pages for her big dramatic entry, which is a bit too much even if she's pretty cool for a chicken-dragon. Also, interesting how Igneel is inside Natsu while Grandeeney seems to just be hiding elsewhere.

Happy and Erza note how the Face markers are disappearing, and apparently, all the other named dragons -- Metalicana, Weisslogia and Skiadrum -- have shown up and are starting to blow the Faces apart. Well so much for Tartaros' master plan... I guess I should be happy that it isn't dragged on and on? The dragons showing up are pretty cool, I admit. But we better get some answers! I'm a big fan of Skiadrum... or whichever of them is Rogue's parent. The panel of it just being one long dragon-shaped shadow blowing through stuff is pretty neat.

Interested to see what's to come next. E.N.D. will undoubtedly be opened, and it seems Lumen Histoire will be used against E.N.D. instead of Face. I literally could not care less about Tartaros' plans, though, and am more interested about the whole dragon situation.
