Toriko 307 Review: Firestorm Monkey

Toriko Chapter 307: Determination to Reenter the Mountain

The characters have apparently progressed pretty quickly since last chapter. Toriko can juggle 30 with his one hand, Sani and Coco can juggle over 100 together... and Zebra is eating one. Which is rather funny, though Kaka does convince Zebra to do Enbu training with the excuse that the BB Pillbugs taste better after being juggled. And he later does so.

The Denshark reveals that it can detach its head from its long, long body as an autonomy measure similar to lizards dropping their tails. Apparently with that the Denshark becomes, like, the perfect hiding spot, except that it can't move. And it takes 2-3 days to regenerate, so they can conveniently bring Komatsu along with them. So with Sani's hair they're going to scale the mountain. As they do so, there's a bit about how they don't feel the ten times gravity anymore, and how Kaka tells them to continue practicing juggling as they scale the mountain and generally talk about how Enbu really depends on training and they cannot stop training and all that stuff.

After a bit, they meet up with the Iai-Aye... who brought friends! Funny-looking friends! The funniest being this monkey version of Firestorm with flame-hair and flaiming hands and legs... it's like Infernape from Pokemon, but less cartoony. There is one with poop on his head, a giant bulky one with a bird's beak (which looks hilarious), one with like two dozen arms ending in boxing gloves, one that seems to be a monkey version of Jiro with the pompadour and everything, one with a long beard and one with a witch's hat and a staff. And there's a boring black angry generic monkey who I guess is floating but compared to the rest...

The Iai-Aye has gathered these powerful warriors, like they are capture levels 750 to around 1200, and while no match for Bambina, are apparently able to progress to the next level in the 100G Mountain. They help the Four Kings train, and this apparently involves training to take hits. Also a montage, of course. Poop-head monkey's fighting tactics apparently is to use poop on its tail and try and use it to gross out the enemy or something. The boring floating black monkey is apparently like, Luffy, because it can extend his arms and have them burrow through the ground to attack people. There are a couple more montages but they're just generic punching and whatnot. Kaka mentions some secret Enbu technique, but doesn't elaborate. Toriko and Zebra are pretty confident they can scare Bambina off but I doubt they can still put that much of a fight in. But we'll see. After all, all they need is to be his playmates.

Overall I'm not really a big fan of training chapters, and in Toriko especially, so I don't really have a lot to say about the past two chapters. But it's not bad, it's just, y'know, to get from point A to point B. And at least this chapter's got a bunch of weird-looking monkeys that are kind of funny, so there is that as well.
