Nanatsu no Taizai 182 Review: Baby Love

Nanatsu no Taizai, Chapter 182: Unconditional Warmth

We get Elizabeth, Zaratros and Hawk exploring the flashback, with Meliodas walking out of the ruins of Danafor with Baby Elizabeth. Meliodas is insanely protective of baby Elizabeth, calling her 'my woman'. Which... I don't think Meliodas is a pedophile, and we all know that Elizabeth is the reincarnation of Liz.... so maybe reincarnation happens differently in this universe? Did a baby just pop out next to where Liz died? Did Liz not die, but was regressed down into a baby with no memory of her first life? It's far better than the alternative that Meliodas is a creepy baby-lover, and it's creepy enough as it is with Meliodas already knowing Elizabeth since she was a little girl and keeps groping her in the present.

But eh, creepy age differences aside, we get to see the formation of the Seven Sins, with Meliodas earning Zaratros's respect in physical combat and a drinking match, and some prophecy things thanks to King Barta and Merlin randomly showing up. Merlin's deal is still a gigantic mystery, though I don't think we'll get that explored just yet -- Meliodas seems to be the central focus of these chapters going forward. Elizabeth gets adopted by the royal family, and we get the revelation that the Seven Sins were formed in order to take down the Commandments, though only Merlin and Meliodas (and maybe Barta) really realized it at that time.

Merlin does mention that each one of the five that they chose via prophecy/scrying/whatever magic is from a different tribe. We know Ban's a human, Meliodas is a demon, Diane is a giant and King is a fairy. An argument could be made that Gowther isn't a real demon but a reanimated doll... so what is Merlin? What is Escanor? Escanor was born to a human family, at least, so maybe Ban is the non-human? Is Merlin or Escanor a member of the goddess clan?

Meliodas' age is also addressed here, where he simply can't die, despite trying it several times already. Huh. So he's like Kaidou from One Piece, cursed with undying life? We get an overtly-long heart-feels moment with Meliodas promising to little Elizabeth to always come back which is hardly necessary, then close the chapter with Meliodas in... this weird hell-purgatory thing.
