Nanatsu no Taizai 157 Review: Pigformer

Nanatsu no Taizai, Chapter 157: Flailing Dancing Challenges

There's really not much going on in this chapter still, though at least it isn't quite as mind-numbingly boring as the previous one. The main point of interest is, of course, the revelation of Hawk's ability: Transpork, which allows him to take the characteristics and powers of any magical living thing he eats. It is shown this chapter when he eats this tunneling worm-fish thing, the Sandcrawler, and ends up transforming into a Hawk-fish hybrid. It explains how he got the properties of that dragon a while back, and more subtly explains how Hawk's Mama could eat Monspiet's super-scary magic ball.

There's a nice little callback as the fake Meliodases end up to be the Hide And Seek monsters from Diane's first appearance, though they're quickly disposed off. Team Diane meets up with Gilthunder and Hauser, and the latter get happy at the chance to score since Diane has forgotten King. There's this moment when an adult Sandcrawler, with a maw that could swallow even Diane whole, shows up and attacks the group, but honestly the Sandcrawler's as much a distraction as the Hide And Seek monsters. Some random fighters get totally killed in a gory fashion, but the Sandcrawler moves in to attack this totally new and important-looking character with a cape who I don't believe we've seen before. Oh well, "who dat" is a far more interesting cliffhanger than "oh I bet the main characters are in serious danger from this filler monster".

Still better than this week's Fairy Tail, that's for sure.
