Toriko 355 Review: Breath Wars

Toriko, Chpater 355: Sniffing Contest

Apparently Guinness the Wolf King's big soul-sucking power is... well, him just breathing. It's nice how both Heracles and Guinness's powers both involve breathing, but where Heracles just wins out in sheer volume and force of the air he breathes in and out, Guinness's breathing revolves around his sense of smell. Apparently simply smelling something allows Guinness to, well, gather data on everything about its target, even information about gourmet cells and favourite foods. Toriko summons his appetite demon. Toriko uses his Devil's Search to counter Guinness Search, and it does begin to draw out a wee bit of Guinness's soul or whatever, but it doesn't quite manage it.

Starjun recovers, and the two of them do this combo attack. Starjun summons a great blade of flame on his arm that he calls Satan Burner, and Toriko muscles up his right arm... and then compresses it to look thin and emancipated as fuck. They do a combo of Jet Knife and Hoshigiri, which causes Guinness to consider dodging the attack, something he's never had to do ever since he fought Jirou in the past. And Past!Jirou looks creepy as fuck. Maybe that Guinness Tooth weapon he used way back in Joie's introduction was ripped out of Guinness himself?

We get an obligatory 'so big on the surface of Earth' scene, and then Guinness... takes a piss. And only Toriko can make piss description into something that sounds plot-relevant, as Guinness puts enough information into his urine that Toriko's sense of smell allows him to receive information from Guinness regarding NEO. Also, Guinness confirms to us readers that there's a third demon inside Toriko, even if we only see its leg.

Meanwhile Zebra and Brunch (fine, I'll call him Brunch instead of Buranchi, though I might slip back without warning) has finished preparing News. Guess we are going to skip past all the others, and out of the three other teams Zebra and Brunch are definitely the most anticipated and foreshadowed team and I'm honestly kinda bummed that we're not going to see them. On the other hand, cutting away to like ten or twenty chapters of showing the other three tag-teams do their own wacky things while all these interesting fights are happening would be a stupid change in pace, so I guess it's inevitable after building up NEO so much in the middle of the Another arc.

Eh, I guess they just want to hurry on to space as quickly as they can?
