Nanatsu no Taizai 158 Review: New Dudes

Nanatsu no Taizai, Chapter 158: The Heroes of Revelry

Not much to say about this chapter, really, which is around to introduce us to some new dudes. Via montage! Everyone's fighting these giant sand dinosaur things, and we briefly see that Threader, Hendricksen and baby Griamor are hanging out together. A couple of pages is devoted to Diane, Gilthunder and Hauser doing their best to take down their sand monster, but it has slime that causes all weapons to slide off, and eventually gets defeated by the caped dude with a staff we saw at the end of last chapter, who freezes the slime on the sand monster.

We then cut away to a bunch of other characters we haven't seen before. There's this little elf-looking kid making poems while playing on a guitar. Sadistic poems. There is this group made up of three scarecrow-faced jester knights who fought with poison and are apparently assassin-knights of Maraka. There is this dude with hair that covers his eyes, who apparently punched the sand-monster so hard he made a crapton of craters on it. Probably came over from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, then. He mourns the death of the monster and is all like 'oh the lamenting of the soul' and bullshit like that. There's your requisite Japanese Iai samurai character, who even dresses like a stereotypical samurai, like Nobunaga from Hunter x Hunter or Kenshin from Rurouni Kenshin, who naturally cuts the monster he faces into two.

And then we get all these shots of these characters one-shotting a single sand monster (well, Diane's group failed to even kill theirs, and the clowns were 3-on-1) but we then see a pile of at least five. Who's responsible? Well, Meliodas. Who's hanging out with Arthur.

Overall a mostly pointless chapter other than to introduce a bunch of new characters... though I'm not sure that we actually need so many new characters. But oh well.
