Boku no Hero Academia 156 Review: Eri's Power

My Hero Academia, Chapter 156: The Rescuee's Power

The chapter initially plays off as a 'what happened in the past ten minutes recap'. We see how the plague-mask mook finally activates his drug and starts growing into a giant, and fighting Team Ryukyu again. We get to see Tsuyu, Hadou and Uraraka do some cool shit. We get to see what the Villain Alliance are doing, with Toga masquerading as Midoriya and maneuvering the Ryukyu fight into place so that they'd smash down onto the ground. We get to see Mr. Compress, who assisted in making holes to weaken the ground. There are some honestly repetitive scenes of Midoriya charging at Overhaul.

Which is all well and good, because not all chapters need to be super-eventful stuff. We do need these chapters that connect one exciting stuff to another. But thankfully, the chapter's not all just a recap of off-screen things, but we also get to see Eri, the damsel in distress who's so broken that she can't see any future but being abused by Overhaul over and over again... we get to see her powers and just how Overhaul managed to get her from the original yakuza boss. It's a mysterious power that basically reverses time, which... okay, I can get that it's the source of the quirk-nullifier power. We get to see the horror story of a baby Eri accidentally causing her father to straight up get erased from existence. And now, seeing Mirio's cape, Eri gets so motivated that she touches Chisaki and reverses his power, splitting him from the other dude. The chapter ends with Midoriya catching Eri, and, well, that's pretty damn cool.

Looking forward to the conclusion of the yakuza arc, though.
