Nanatsu no Taizai 194 Review: The Bigger They Are

Nanatsu no Taizai, Cahpter 194: A Cruel Hope

Zaratros was never handled well in this manga, isn't he? He quite randomly shows up out of nowhere to meet Meliodas and Elizabeth and give some exposition, shows up to help deus ex machina the Fraudrin/Dreyfus situation, and now he dies after his role as a plot device is over. Honestly there are a million better ways to handle Zaratros without having him turn to an overly convenient plot device but hey. We spend an entire chapter having Dreyfus meet with baby Griamor, then Dreyfus and Hendricksen going all "no, you the better man" with Zaratros. And Zaratros disappears. It's very unsatisfying and frankly not the best bit of writing in this manga.

Fraudrin reveals himself to be alive, and his magic power is... Full Size. Which makes him a giant. Yeaaaaah that's not at all disappointing. I mean, sure, there's an entire race that's called the 'giants', but hey, Fraudrin, whatever floats your boat. No wonder Gowther got chosen instead of you.

Meliodas shows up to whack Fraudrin around a bit, before it's revealed that the 30,000 power is the Lostvayne clone, and Meliodas's current power is 60,000. Everyone points out how evil and savage Meliodas is, so at least there's going to be that part of conflict. Fraudrin himself doesn't seem too much of a threat, least of all not with Merlin around. Man, Merlin really should get to work more often.
