Toriko 392 Review: Bunch of Punching

Toriko, Chapter 392: Full Course of Anger

Wow, that's anticlimactic. Acacia-Neo rises up and creates a crapton of gigantic appetite fists that are each larger than the Earth. Toriko does his ittadakimasu prayer, which summons mother fucking Food Luck, which are the most tired, annoying and overused piece of shit deus ex machina plot device ever, which deflects all of those. Toriko goes in a series of attacks that homage the simple fork/knife/kugi punch repertoire he has in the earlier parts of the series, just striking Neo really really hard several times as he rattles off the names of the parts of a full course. It's cool, of course, but it's interrupted with some nonsense about Neo eating food luck, as well as the revelation that the mass decimation of main characters we saw last chapter? A fake-out without even an explanation beyond 'yeah food luck happens'. Man, fuck food luck.

Neo bulks up a lot from the food luck, which should've happened at the start of this chapter, punches Toriko... and then the third horn-mouth demon pops up, eats Neo's black cells, speaks in a formal manner... and just tells Toriko to say his catchphrase, thank you for all the food, and he just does a finger poke that absolutely overwhelms and blows up full-power Neo.

Wow. That was anticlimactic. Especially for Toriko, where the earlier parts of the manga feature absolutely insane characters that weaponize hair and drinking straws and parasitic bugs and plates and tongues. This is just food luck! Punches! Eating punches! More food luck!

It's probably not as bad as Bleach's sudden ending with Juha and Ichigo, because we still get a fight out of it... but it's still very anticlimactic. I really hope we're rushing this for like a Space Arc or something, but it really just seems like Toriko is rushing for everything to end by chapter 400. And if so, I'd rather we spend a couple of chapters to wrap up the conclusion instead of just prolonging this very convoluted Neo Acacia nonsense that has honestly been highs and downs of being weirdly placed revelations and random characters returning only to do nothing.
