Boku no Hero Academia 68 Review: Injustice League

Boku no Hero Academia, Chapter 68

A bit of a slower chapter, but one that's full of relatively important conversations. Obviously there is Shigaraki Tomura interrupting Midoriya's shopping trip and basically grabbing him in a public place because no one expects him to show up without all the creepy-ass hands. That makes for an absolutely interesting twist near the end, because the light-hearted tone of the second half of the chapter (peppered with Mineta dropping hilarious lines about buying night-vision goggles and shit like that) really doesn't lead you to believing that, well, some tense cliffhanger like this will end it.

But let's talk about the first half, won't we? We're at the villain bar, picking up where we left off, something that I didn't think will happen. Shigaraki just straight up goes all 'these are the two types of people I hate the least, a brat and an asshole'. Black Mist, of course, tells Shigaraki to listen to them, and apparently the pimp-looking dude (did we know his name?) is an agent for villains or some shit and will get a commission from Black Mist for recommending them? Weird, but cool.

The cute high school girl is a psychopath, of course, called Himiko Toga. Toga is apparently a fugitive because of multiple murders via blood loss. Um, yeah, psychopath! And she's a bit of a hyper girl, but Shigaraki points out that she doesn't make sense. "I want to be like Stain! I want to kill Stain!" The other dude, Mr. Burn Scars All Over The Body, is called Bamboo Joints. Which is honestly one of the least threatening supervillain names and you won't think of this... this horrifying fucker if you hear the name Bamboo Joints. Bamboo Joints is openly antagonistic to Toga, calling her a dumb blonde, and according to the broker, he's just a Stain fanboy and hasn't actually done a crime.

Shigaraki absolutely hates all the Stain praise going around and is about to attack Toga and Bamboo, and they naturally retaliate... but Black Mist just pulls off a Portal and has all their hands appear elsewhere. Black Mist then talks a lot about how they need manpower, how Shigaraki needs to accept the people that comes to them, how to use resources. Shigaraki, like the manchild he is, throws a tantrum and heads off, while the other newcomers kind of... well, disapproves of Shigaraki's actions. Naturally. Black Mist apologizes on his behalf, telling the newcomers in true diplomatic fashion that they'll get back to them later, and despite Shigaraki's behaviour he knows he's outclassed and he'll come up with an arrangement that'll satisfy them all.

We have some generic fun school stuff. Everyone can go despite four of them flunking the practical exam, Iida lampshades how Aizawa is just scaring everyone with threats and the going back on them, some talk about how the grading system is, implications that summer camp is going to be training from hell, Mineta being perverted, Uraraka being all dere-dere with Midoriya thanks to Belly Button Man, Bakugou being a dick and being all "shopping? Fuck you guys!", the sheer hilarity of seeing people like Tokoyami and Shouta in civilian clothes... and, of course, Shigaraki showing up in that hoodie and showing off his real face... the true face of a psychopath. What a cliffhanger!
