Toriko 347 Review: Jiji's a bit of a dick

Toriko, Chapter 347: Testing the Knights

Well, an absolutely slow chapter -- which is honestly good, since it means that Toriko isn't being rushed to conclusion. There really isn't much that happened in this chapter, though... we've got scenes of Don Slime at the beginning and end, and apparently the Ichiryu we saw a couple chapters back is just a copy of his body, whereas Don Slime and King Enma simply can't find where Ichiryu's soul went. And despite all the rape-faces Don Slime has made over the past few chapters, that scene at the end with him just being a sad blob with sad eyes talking about how all he wanted was to share a meal with Ichiryu again... man, poor Don Slime. :(

We see a bit of Chin Chin Chin and Match being overwhelmed by 'feeding' God with Food Immersion, Komatsu has some bullshit going on with Chako's mom which I honestly zoned out on because I can't give two shits about this particular side plot and really I don't care at all.

We then have Yuda and the rest talking about how the flow of time is radically different. The harvesting takes place over six days... on the surface. Apparently in the Giant Clam, time moves around 1/60th of the speed it does on the surface, and it's a full year in the clam where it's 6 days on the surface... and within the other Seven Beasts, it's ten times more than that. Apparently Jiji just didn't tell the Gourmet Knights that (who left on these adorable mini-versions of the Seven Beasts) simply because he wanted to test their resolve... otherwise known as being a dick, knowing that they have to go within the giant animals and constantly pull stuff for ten years. But we get some back and forth with Jiji going all 'oh, it's only ten years' and Damala Sky being all 'I meant the opposite of that'. Of course we know the Gourmet Knights can go for a long time without food. And apparently aging still takes place in the same timeframe as the surface world.

I mean, yes, we know they'll all succeed, but at the same time Jiji's being a gigantic douche withholding that information from them. I dunno. It just rubbed me the wrong way, I guess.

Overall nothing exciting happened, and it's just a follow-up to last chapter. And can we just... drop the Chako plot? Please? It's mind-numbingly boring and I honestly don't give two shits.
