Fairy Tail 462 Review: All These B-Listers That Won't Fight

Fairy Tail, Chapter 462: Battlefield

Not a lot honestly happened in this chapter, and with me working on reviewing half a season’s worth of Agents of SHIELD, Daredevil and The Flash episodes, I honestly don’t want to spend much time talking about this chapter. It’s not bad, really, but nothing of importance happens here. We learn that Macao and Wakaba are gigantic perverts that are not above taking advantage of sexy prisoners (though I do like the obscure continuity nod that Bisca, who also comes from the West, dresses in a similar fashion). The mystery between Brandish and Layla are, of course, just dragged out. Creepy McCreep, Brandish’s miniature creep, is out and active and knows where their headquarters is despite it being the Big Building with Fairy Tail plastered all over it. Brandish is locked up with some magic cancelling whatever.

Also, goes without saying, since Fairy Tail isn’t a manga where good guys die (except Lahr and Simon because fuck those dudes I guess) Ichiya and the Raijinshuu are just bandaged up. It’s cool, though. I like those guys.

Two of the other Spriggan members (old dude is apparently Ajeel’s grandfather) reports in to Zeref, and Zeref notes that not killing the Spriggan members is going to be Fairy Tail’s downfall – I would definitely like to see this played straight, how showing mercy to Brandish will bite them back in their ass. Some talk about how Blue Pegasus, Sabertooth, Lamia Scale and Mermaid Heel are going off to intercept forces from two compass points… yeah, I honestly don’t think any of these dudes are going to matter… Kagura, maybe, but Sabertooth in particular have been absolutely disappointing ever since the Grand Magic Games, and I don’t think anyone from the two older guilds actually has fought a battle and won. Mavis is genre savvy enough to know that the author really loves Fairy Tail members over everyone else, so he sends, well, most of the main characters except for Natsu and Lucy to back up the B-list guilds. Honestly don’t care who goes where.

We see a pretty cool two-page spread of Jura, Warrod and, um, Vampire Dude and Old Dude from the Ten Wizard Saints whose names I forgot being all cool as they intercept one of the compass points. Yeah, those don’t need Fairy Tail backup, I’m sure. Natsu heads off to intercept Zeref, of course. Hey, cool glasses anime stereotype dude, do us all a favour – pull a Haschwalth and knock Natsu down without Zeref even giving a shit, okay thanks bye.

This would all be a lot more dramatic if, y’know, the lesser guild members actually matter in fighting. Any time they try to do something the Fairy Tail members will always upstage them so hard. Jura and Kagura are probably the only ones left that can believably hold their own – like Ichiya, and even then that was more joke than anything – against the main villains. So yeah.

Also why didn’t Walricht shoot another blast from his gigantic cannon?
